UK Bingo Favorite Establishment Set to Expand

August 1st, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in News

Bingo seems to be getting more popular than ever before in the United Kingdom and recent word from famed bingo industry leader Mecca Bingo has surfaced that they are increasing their customers by targeting a new demographic: those out to party and have a good time. With more than 100 facilities across the UK today, Mecca Bingo is hoping to build upon their reputation for a lively social scene and have been shifting their focus towards events such as karaoke, late night rounds of bingo and speciality bingo games such as Rock n Roll bingo. This has given them a total customer count of just under a million people in the 1st 6 months of 2010, a rise of just over 3% compared with their previous year. However, that is not good enough, say the leaders of Mecca, and they want to take things up a notch by bringing in live dancers and what they are calling ‘virtual snail racing’. Already over 4 million pounds have been spent on improvements for their halls and in the process, Mecca has ended its canteen style food for the table service.

These upgrades have lead the company to watch its age range fall from the early 50s customers who typified the early morning hours to those in their mid 40s and under during the later hours of service. Ian Burke, the chief executive for Mecca has said that the core customers will still be looked after because the business needs to remain stable, but they would like to see their core group expand to cover a wider range of ages.

With the high levels of success that the online bingo industry has been experiencing in their web based operations as of late, it comes as no surprise that many of the major providers have come to view the need for more exceptional promotions to be at an all time high. There are several companies that have begun to align their brand image with other exciting entertainment activities such as professional sports. In much of the world today the current reigning sport of choice has proven to be football. The World Cup, the foremost game in the football world at the international level, has long been a much anticipated event due to the level of competition by the teams which are each year the best of the best. Online bingo sites have seen this as an opportunity to tie together this major world event with their gaming operations by offering tie-ins.

Although at first some experts were slightly skeptical, Littlewoods Bingo – a United Kingdom based service provider – has unveiled its plans to offer a prize drawing for players on its site that will award them with a chance to go see the event along with a friend, all travel expenses paid. This year’s Word Cup is to be held in South Africa so the winners can choose either that location or pick from a holiday to any of the other countries that have a team in the football championship this year if they are not interested in viewing the games.

Jesse Jackson Marches for Bingo in Alabama

There is a battle brewing in the American state of Alabama and it promises to bring a massive wave of media attention to the Southern state as it regards one of the nations more favored forms of legal wagering: bingo. The primary dispute currently being argued out at the highest levels of the state government has to do with the electronic bingo machines that were traditionally an allowed part of the Native American run casino operations that had recently become a part of the local Alabama land scape. Not only as the state’s governor voiced his opposition to the machines, a growing number of protestors have showed up to voice their own concerns that the elimination of such machines is not a positive thing for the economic growth of the state that, like many in the US, is experiencing a sharp decline in state revenues as a result of the current global economic melt down. Now, however, there are big names entering the fray and among them is the Reverend Jesse Jackson, a famed civil rights leader known for his role in helping African Americans achieve higher living standards.

Rev. Jackson has joined marchers in the state capital of Montgomery to conduct an event in which they are requesting that the Senate allow them the right to vote on the electronic bingo issue instead of having it merely hashed out by the state senate and house of representatives. For the majority of the people involved, bingo is seen as a lucrative sponsor of secure jobs that can bring help to families in the current times that would otherwise struggle to survive.
